god plays roulette

Old, white philosophers once debated man's state of nature. Were people born good or evil? They really spent decades on this, before the discovery of electromagnetism which eventually led to SportsCenter.

Let me tell you something - the state of nature doesn't exist as a singularity. It's not even good or bad as Rousseau and Locke argued. God spins a roulette wheel when you're born. His isn't black and red. It's got shades of everything between yellow and blue with some left in white, and whichever square that ball landed on, it's your state of nature. He's not dumb. Like the old adage, variety is the spice of life, - er, supreme being. Here's how they break down:

red - You're angry. Yeah, yeah... they're out to get you. No one cares but you. You're adamant. People are fucking with you. You've got to fight back.

yellow - You fear everything. You seem self-assured and confident because you don't care what happens. You're the fearless imposter. You're actually scared of everything. So who you meet, what happens doesn't matter to you - you'll be scared of it anyway. Sometimes you don't notice you're scared, but then you do something that reminds you of your state of nature.

orange - You're ashamed. It's close to being yellow, but with one major difference. You're scared not of the present but of the future. You go around hiding stuff about the present because you fear that it will show everyone what the future holds - for you. You're ashamed of what it may mean. You believe people judge you not by who you are today but what you will be. You think of others in the same way. You're trapped. Look around. Do you notice you are surrounded by ghosts?

green - You're the kid in school that smoked weed because you were noticed for it (that's why it's green, man... haaaa). You may be nondescript. Maybe you are above average in sports or school. No one cares. At least you don't think they do... you smoke weed. You smoke a lot of weed. You smoke so much of da kine people start noticing you. Then, they forget who you were. It's not your fault - you're green. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

blue - You like who you are. It could be anything; a rockstar, a poet, a chef. Some people won't like who you are because damn it why should you be so smug? You are smug though, you know you're smug but you like that.

purple - You're happy and well-adjusted. Nothing bad's going to happen to you. You could be digging a ditch in Utah or taking the Greyhound cross country seated next to some sweaty fat guy in the dead of summer and still be happy. You stop to talk to dogs. You smile, people smile back. You should teach orange people what it's like to live in the present, but you don't because you wouldn't know how to talk to them and they would think you're out of your mind.

black - You work hard. You may like who you are or you may not. You think not in the present or in the future but in the past. That's where you get your motivation.

white - You see the world through other people's eyes. It's hard to be creative, but it's really easy to emulate. Sudden sadness isn't unusual. You have lots of friends and few enemies. People interest you but few other things do.

Don't worry, your state of nature only shows how chance played a role in how you see the world. It doesn't have to stay that way. Most people, like paint on a palette, slowly mixes. You rub a little red off of a classmate, a little green off of a co-worker. However, some people stay the same. They've got Teflon suits. They're like the new subways in New York, graffiti-free. That's not the state of nature's fault. That's you.

How's that for late-night nonsense? Want to give me your vision of god's roulette table?

Hmm, what color are you? I think I'm a mix of all the colors, there are little bits of me in each of your descriptions. You know, your "purple" example seems familiar... But I don't think God spins the roulette wheel once for each person, I think he spins it a few times to get the mix. You said that "you rub" colors off from the people around you, maybe they're already in you and come out when you're around people with that particular color in them. Maybe that's how we make friends, we look for people with the same "colors" we have.

marc:

Wow, electromagnetism led to sportscenter? Lol! I had no idea!

I noticed that each of the decriptions on colors that you use has a negative theme to it except for Blue and Purple. Is there a reason for this?

Marc, the colors simply represent certain attributes I see in people. It must've been a bad day since I thought of more "bad" colors than "good". Hmm... I'll have to think about this a little more and maybe add a few more colors to the roulette wheel.
